What you won’t find in our practice

We are not interested in providing substandard care to any of our patients. Whether you have insurance or not, if you ask us to take short cuts or lower our standard of care for you, we won’t.

What this means for insured patients:

In dentistry, insurance can be difficult to understand. Some will not allow for the cost of resin fillings and use the alternate benefit for silver or amalgam to cover the cost, which in turn, makes your actual cost more than what was expected.

Additionally, insurance companies have different levels of care. Some of the plans offered seem to save you money. What is actually happening is you pay less for the plan offered, they pay less for procedures and in return you pay more for out of pocket expenses.

Check out some of our insurance tips: How to get the most out of your insurance

We will not use outdated mercury-based fillings in your mouth, no matter what your insurance tries to dictate. If your insurance plan downgrades for a cheaper alternative, we will talk with you about better options. We will do our best to work with you to optimize your insurance benefits, so you can receive first-class care. And if your insurance plan will only allow you to receive substandard care, we will work with you to find a suitable payment plan and/or insurance company.

Finding a dentist can be quite overwhelming, especially in the metro Atlanta area. Take your time and do your research.  Don’t wait for a dental emergency to pop up and force you to choose someone at random. There are several things to consider and to make it a little easier in your search, we have compiled a list of what to look for in finding the right dentist.

What to look for in finding the right dentist:

CE Hours

Continuing Education Hours

Your dentist should readily display a list of hours of continuing education (CE) for your review. The ability to practice comprehensive dentistry is earned and maintained via CE studies. A comprehensive dental practice results in rapid treatment delivery as the need for expensive specialist referral is reduced. The minimum hours required to maintain a GA license is 20 hours per year. It is wise to seek a dentist that exceeds the state board minimums. You can request a full copy of Dr. Syribeys’ CE hours by contacting us via email and we will be happy to send it to you.

Professional Organizations

Professional Organizations

Professional organizations are important because some like the Academy of General Dentistry (AGD) and the International Congress of Oral Implantologists (ICOI) require rigorous testing and examinations to allow membership. Membership in the AGD and ICOI indicate a lifetime commitment to continuing education. Dr. Syribeys has obtained his Fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry and the International Congress of Oral Implantologists placing him in an elite group of dentists comprised of less than 5% of all dentists in North America.

Labs

Tell me about your lab technician and how long have you known each other?

Now more than ever, made in the USA really does matter. Not only does this support our economy, documented cases of foreign made dental work with high lead content have appeared. Apparently, some clinics and labs bundle cases together for outsourcing to unregulated labs overseas for substantial cost savings. Your dentist should have a solid relationship with a local lab technician.

Does the practice use the treating Doctor’s name or some other name?

Ideally, the doctor responsible for building a successful practice should deliver your dental treatment to maintain continuity of care. Associates routinely come and go. Our practices will never utilize associates. You will not be seen by a different dentist each time you visit our office.

Office hours

Choosing a dentist close to home or work will make it easier for you to schedule appointments and arrive on time. Make sure the office hours are convenient for you. Also, if there is an emergency outside of normal office hours, what type of arrangements are made for treatment? What happens if you have an emergency during normal business hours? You should be able to contact your dentist at any time either by an answering service, pager, or cellphone.

Insurance Companies

Insurance

Does the dentist accept your insurance? What does it mean to be in-network or out-of-network? If your plan requires requires referrals to specialists, can they be provided? Research your insurance plan by calling them and downloading our tips to get the most of your coverage.

Costs and Payment Options

Costs will vary by dental practice and you may want to get estimates for common procedures. Even if you have insurance you may still have to pay for a portion of the cost. It’s good to know what type of payment options are offered (personal checks, cash, credit cards, payment plan, etc.) and what type of credit cards are accepted. A good practice will provide you with information about costs and payment plans before your treatment is scheduled. It is also a good idea to know what their policy is on missed appointments.

Most Important is Your Own Personal comfort

Everyone is different. We each have our own personal needs and idea of the perfect dental office. You and your dentist will working together for a long time and it’s important to find someone you are comfortable with. Does the dentist take the time to listen and understand your concerns? Is the staff helpful, and willing to answer your questions?

Viagra

Does any member of the support staff work off of a commission?

Your doctor should be a knowledgeable and skilled dentist, not a salesman. Special mouthwashes, toothpicks, dental floss, tongue scrapers, etc. all aggressively marketed via a commission driven staff is not part of our dental practice.
